Send it to your inbox

Give the state and we include that state’s QIO phone number in your email. Leave it blank and the email explains how to find the number on the patient’s Important Message from Medicare.

By requesting the kit you agree that we may email it to you, along with a short series of follow-up emails about appealing a hospital discharge. We are not affiliated with Medicare. You can unsubscribe at any time.

The appeal, in plain terms

When Medicare is about to stop paying, you get a written notice. You can ask for a fast review before you leave.

The notice is called the Notice of Medicare Non-Coverage.

One phone call to the review organization starts the appeal.

Before you start

The window is short, so the call is made the same day the notice arrives.

Who your appeal goes to

The review organizations are Acentra Health, once called Kepro, and Commence Health, once called Livanta. Your notice may still show the old name.

Patient Stand has no connection to Acentra Health, Kepro, Commence Health, Livanta, Medicare, or any government agency or contractor.

The appeal is free, and you make the call yourself.

Calling for a parent

If you are calling for a parent, you can start the appeal for them. The kit tells you what to say and when to call.

Ask about observation status

Time spent under observation may not count toward the three-day stay Medicare looks for before it helps with later nursing care. Ask whether the stay is inpatient or observation.

Patient Stand prepares documents and explains the process. We do not give legal, financial, medical or tax advice, we do not act on your behalf, and we cannot promise any outcome.
